Richard Harris “Tex” Blount, 74, of Gadsden, AL passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014. He proudly served his country first in the Marine Corps and then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served in Vietnam as an air transportation supervisor. Upon his military retirement he worked in heating and air conditioning supply and retired from Solar Supply Co. in Alexandria, LA where he lived until 2009. When he moved to Gadsden, AL, he loved to ride his motorcycle, fishing, camping with his family and hunting. Most of all he loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his spouse of 50 years, Ruthie Nichols Blount; his parents, John Harrison Blount and Edna Lucille McGilvray Blount; one brother, Dale Wayne Blount; one grandson, Samuel Nichols; one granddaughter, Sandra McAdams Johnson.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia McAdams and her husband, Jim of Gadsden, AL and Bonnie Bryn and her husband, Randy of Shreveport, LA; three sons, Robert C. Nichols and his wife, Jan of Boyce, LA, Billy M. Nichols of Altha and Gene Weaver and his wife, Paula of Lynn Haven; one sister, Shirley Wilson of Reno, NV; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. at Peavy Funeral Home.

Services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 3:30 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Gadsden, AL and Saturday, March 1 at 12 p.m. at Frink Baptist Church with Father Marcus Voss, O.S.B. officiating in Gadsden, AL and Reverend Dan Thomas officiating in Frink. Interment will follow at McClellan Cemetery in Frink.

Serving at pallbearers are, Christopher J. McAdams, James Carlton Walden, Richard Graham, Jim McAdams, Johnny Kilgo and Danny H. Walden. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Physicians and staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center; Denise, Lyndsi, Cara and the staff of AlaCare Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Catholic School Gift Fund.

Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown is in charge of local arrangements.
