Stanley R. Gordon, 91, passed away on August 11th 2016.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on April 17th 1925, he was the son of Stanley A. and Clara (Burtman) Gordon.

He was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School's, class of 1943.

He entered the Army Air Corps following high school and served as a crewman on a B-24 Bomber, participating in 45 missions in the Pacific Theater in WWII.

He received several declarations for his service, including the Air Medal, with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, with six Battle Stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star.

After WWII, he entered Syracuse University and received a Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree in 1951.

He and his wife, the former, Jeanette Fitzgerald, of Hague, NY, whom he married in 1948, resided in Amsterdam, NY, Schenectady, Van Nuys, CA and N. Syracuse, NY, before settling in Glenville, NY, for the past 50 years.

Stan and Jeanette were parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church in Glenville.

Stan was employed by the NYS Dept. of Public Works as a Highway Engineer, the General Electric Co. as a Structural Designer and the Lockheed Aircraft Co., in Burbank, CA, as a Stress Analyst, before a career with General Electric.

He was a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of New York, Arizona, Florida and Vermont.

He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers and the General Electric Elfun Society and Quarter Century Club.

After retirement, he became an Advanced Class HAM radio operator (KG2BG), and building and repair of personal computers became a hobby.

He became involved in Volunteerism and offered time to the Empire State Aerosciences Museum as a member of the Research Library Committee and the Glenville Senior Center, where he also served on the Board of Directors and Executive Board.

His volunteerism was recognized in 2010 by being named, Schenectady County Senior Volunteer of the Year.

Mr. Gordon was an active participant of the Union College UCALL Program and served on its Steering Committee.

He was an ardent sports participant and fan, enjoying golf and bowling, and rooting for his San Francisco Giants, New York Giants and the Syracuse Orange.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jeanette, after 65 years of marriage in 2013; his brother, Daniel in 1998; and sister-in-law, Anne in 2014.

Burial with full honors will be bestowed at the Solomon National Veterans Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.

Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Glenville Funeral Home.
