Earl Marsh Brooks was born April 11, 1846, near Lind, Wisconsin. He came west to Minnesota with his brothers, Albert and Edward, before his parents arrived. He married New York-born Mary Titus at Owatonna, Minnesota, in 1874. Like his father, Earl was a carpenter and millwright. He and Mary lived next to his parents at Winona with their boys, Clarence and Harry, in 1880. By 1885 they were at Owatonna, where Mary died in September at age 31. Earl never remarried but lived off and on with the family of his sister, Louise Brooks Daniels, following them back to Wisconsin as of 1905 and then heading west with them to Oregon. He lived with the Daniels family in his final years. Earl died in Portland at age 73, on September 8, 1920. According to the Westergaard Death Index, published by the Genealogical Forum of Oregon, he was buried at Mount Scott Park. Today this cemetery is known as Lincoln Memorial Park.
