Barbara, the granddaughter of Czechoslovakian homesteaders, received an Associate's degree from Cotty College in Missouri and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska. Barbara married a Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps, Alexander Wiltse Jr., on Dec. 31, 1944 and moved to his hometown of Catskill. The marriage lasted until 1967. Barb worked for the Greene County Department of Social Services for nearly 20 years as a Child Protective Case Worker, Adult Protective Case Worker and Supervisor, assisting many families throughout the county. Barbara was an honorary long-time member of the Fortnightly Club of Catskill. Her other volunteer work included home delivery of Meals on Wheels. Barbara was also one of the founding members of the Catskill Garden Club, enjoyed bridge, cards and word games. She is survived by three daughters; two grandchildren and two-great-grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Emil Smith and Mary Anna Hruska Smith, and her sister, Verna Smith Labbit Smith.
