Mrs. Joyce E. Bauer, 80, of De Witt, Iowa, died Friday morning, August 12, 2016, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Joyce Elizabeth Scheckel was born June 18, 1936, to Wilfrid C. and Margaret (Kilburg) Scheckel in Springbrook. She was a 1955 graduate of Welton High School. Joyce was united in marriage to William C. Bauer June 23, 1956, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Welton. The couple farmed north of Welton for many years raising their family before moving to De Witt 1983. She worked as a substitute cook in the De Witt school system.

Joyce was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, De Witt. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, traveling with her friends, and playing her favorite games, Bunco, cards, and Yahtzee. Joyce was known for cooking and hosting wonderful holiday gatherings. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who always had big hugs for her.

In addition to her loving husband of 60 years, Bill, Joyce is survived by her children and their spouses, Rhonda and Glen Boswell of Welton, Dennis and Rhonda Bauer of De Witt, Connie and John Burns of Eldridge, and Craig and Julie Bauer of McCausland; grandchildren, Cara Boswell (Dan Vosatka), Abby (Ryan) Knight, Rene (Nick) Morhardt, Alyssa (Joe) Donahue, Austin (Jennie) Bauer, Whitney, and Courtney Bauer, Ashley (Guthrie) Waechter, SPC Korinne Burns, and Carmen Bauer; greatgrandchildren, Jacob, Rachel, Ashton, Mayah, Will, Wesley, Joel, Cecilia, and Paxton; siblings Verlyn (Joanne) Scheckel, Merwyn Scheckel, Carol (Verlyn) Steines, and sister-in-law, Janet Scheckel; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Charles “Bugs,” and her sister-in-law, Joyce Scheckel.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2016, at Schultz Funeral Home, De Witt, with a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, De Witt, with the Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
