Dorcas Lois "Penny" Thomas, 92, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Prairie Vista Village in Altoona, Iowa.
Penny was born July 9, 1924 in Tipperary, Iowa to William and Rose Coop. She moved to Des Moines when she was 12 years old and grew up on the east side. She graduated from East High School in 1942 and maintained lifelong friendships from her class.
She was united in marriage to Raymond W. "Ham" Thomas on April 26, 1941 and they celebrated 63 happy years together before Raymond's passing in 2004. To this union, one son was born, Raymond "Tom" Thomas.
She is survived by her son, Raymond, grandsons, Brian (Dawn) Thomas and Barry (Melissa) Thomas, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters. Penny was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
A very special thanks to the loving staff at Prairie Vista Village.
Services will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. with funeral at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League.
