Leona Rose, 84, of St. Joseph, MI passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at her home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, August 15, 2016 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Services, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Wade Panse officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Friends may visit from 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Sunday, August 14, 2016 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, The Myositis Association or Hospice at Home. Leona was born January 9, 1932 in Berrien Center to Albert George and Mildred (Momany) Tanke. She graduated in 1949 from Benton Harbor High School. After high school Leona was employed as a bookkeeper for Leath Newland Furniture in Benton Harbor. She married the love of her life, Nick Rose Jr, on November 22, 1952 at Methodist Peace Temple in Benton Harbor.After raising her family, she once again worked as a bookkeeper for Twin City Beauty College.

During her retirement years she took great pleasure in attending sporting events, performances and concerts of her grandchildren. Leona was an accomplished fiberist; knitting and crocheting numerous afghans, articles of clothing for family and hats for newborns at the hospital. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, bowling and dancing. Leona participated in the local Entertainment Troupe, the Misfits with her husband, Nick, bringing many laughs and much joy to various venues. Above all else Leona most valued being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Leona Rose is survived by her children, Nick (Patrice) Rose III of St., Joseph, Linda (Ron) Silverlight of South Haven, Brian (Kathy) Rose of St. Joseph and Scott (Tammy) Rose of Stevensville, grandchildren, Nick (Jenny) Rose IV of Ann Arbor, Andrea Rose of San Francisco, CA, Sarah (Kyle McKamey) Hembree of South Haven, Ryan (Lisa) Rose of Gastonia, NC, Amber (Kevin) Snelling of Galien, Kayla Rose & Luke Rose of Stevensville, Nichole (Matt) Williams of Indianapolis, Brianna Rose of St. Joseph, Bethany Rose of Hartford, Stephanie (Ken) Jennings of Eau Claire, Tim Gaul of Ft. Meyers; great-grandchildren, Paxton, Kingston, Kameren, Lennon, Charlotte, Lacey, Paisley, Clark, Lorraine and Cora; brother, Eugene (Eleanor) Tanke of Saginaw; sister, Dolores Spruell of Stevensville; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband Nick Rose Jr., on January 5, 2016; son Mark Rose on June 21, 2016; and beloved grandson Brandon Silverlight in 2009; also by her parents and siblings, George, Dorothy, Robert and Frank.
