2014 obituary. BRUNSWICK — Brian Bohun Barlow, 86, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, after a brief illness. He was born in 1928 in the United Kingdom to British parents. In 1940, he and his brother and two sisters were evacuated to the United States at the start of the Second World War. In 1945, he and his three siblings were adopted by Margaret Burgwin Brock, and lived on her farm in Muncy, Pa. Brian became an American citizen in 1952 and served as an officer in the U.S. Army Occupation Forces in Austria. After receiving a B.S. in economics from The Wharton School and a master's in education from the University of Pennsylvania, he became a teacher in the Lower Merion School District in the suburbs of Pennsylvania. Brian married Marie (Posey) Robbins in 1955 in Belfast, Maine. They lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, before moving to Yarmouth, Maine, in 1985. For the past seven years, the Barlows have lived at Thornton Oaks in Brunswick, Maine. In 2006, Brian published his memoir, "Only One Child," about being an evacuee from England and coming to America. He was predeceased by his sister, Susan Bohun Barlow, and halfbrother Derrick N. Steedman. At his request, there will be no services at this time.
