She was an integral part and founding member of the team that established Dickenson County Medical Center. She completed her career in 2015 as a physician with Stone Mountain Health Services, practicing in Haysi, Virginia. “Doc Pat” was a member of the Bethel United Baptist Church.
“Doc Pat” was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Ralph D. Vanover; parents, Virgil and Ida Mae Howard; brother, Bruce Howard; sister, Carolyn McKenzie; in-laws Veldon and Italy Vanover, as well as sister-in-law Frankie Vanover.
Survivors include daughter Amanda Vanover and fiancé Levi of Gray, Tennessee; son Adam Vanover of Piney Flats, Tennessee; sisters, Janie (Mark) Vanover, Vicki (Daniel) Phipps and Wilma (Marvin) Setser; sisters-in-law Donna (Bob) DeBoard and Toby Howard; brother-in-law, Lynn Vanover; Henry and Susie Vanover; host of other family members and friends whom she loved dearly.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 11th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Valley View Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 12th at the church beginning 11:00 AM with Pastor Lynn Vanover officiating. Burial will follow in the Vanover Family Cemetery on Bakers Ridge. Pallbearers will be nephews and nieces as well as great nephews and great nieces. Honorary pallbearers include Levi Pearman, Bill Freeman, Wings Air Rescue, Clintwood Rescue Squad, Dickenson County Ambulance Service, and team members in the ER and ICU of Johnson City Medical Center.
