Roy Ernest Owens, 69 years of age of the Belchers Fork section of Grundy, VA, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016 at his home. Born March 19, 1947 in Grundy, VA, he was the son of the late Clinton and Mary Elswick Owens.
Roy served in the United States Army, was a retired coal miner, enjoyed hunting and was a hard-core Dale Earnhardt fan. He was a loving husband, grandfather, brother and friend and was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of forty years Flora Mae Owens and son James Chance Hurley.
Survivors include his daughter Tonya Maria Stiltner and husband DeWayne of Grundy, VA; sons Christopher Chad Owens and wife Crystal of Estes Park, CO, Robert Lance Hurley and wife Elizabeth of Grundy, VA; sister Betty Viers of Tazewell, VA; brothers Terry Owens and Lonnie Owens both of Grundy, VA and Paul Owens of OH.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Christopher Chad Owens, Jr., Summer Dawn Owens, Emilee Smith, Austin Chance Hurley, Haley Elizabeth Hurley, Justin Allen Lester, Joshua Caleb Stiltner; great-grandchildren: Remington Brett Stiltner and Abbie Grace Lester, and several friends.
Funeral service for Roy Ernest Owens will be held at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Grundy, VA, Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Danny Hess and Reverend Brandon Ratliff officiating.
Active pallbearers will be his family and friends.
