Marie Baker, age 85, of O’Neill, passed away on Thursday morning, October 16, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in O’Neill. She was born on July 15, 1929, in Gregory, South Dakota, the daughter of Julius and Meta (Kahler) Gruhn.
Marie graduated from High School in Bonesteel, South Dakota, and later graduated from Norfolk Beauty College. Marie married Willard Keith Baker on November 13, 1952; he passed away in 1958.
She was a beautician, and owned and operated Marie's Beauty Shop in O’Neill for over 50 years.
Marie was a member of Christ Lutheran Church LC-MS, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League; she taught Sunday School for many years, and was Sunday School Superintendant.
Marie also managed The Hannah Book Store at Christ Lutheran Church.
She is survived by: her son, Donald Baker and wife Sue; grandchildren, Nathan Baker and wife Mary, and Jason Baker and wife Teresa; seven great grandchildren; and many, many good friends.
Memorial Services on Monday, October 20, 2014, at the Christ Lutheran Church in O’Neill. Burial will be at a later date in the Dallas, South Dakota Cemetery, next to her husband, Keith.
