Richard Lamar Dodd, 75, peacefully passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, with his cherished family by his side.

A native of Gainesville, Ga., Richard was a graduate of Gainesville High School. While the majority of his life Richard called Gainesville home, he and his wife, Yvonne, lived in California during 1968-1972. It is here his beloved daughter Alicia was born. Having an adoring wife, a son and a daughter, the love of his family was the most important devotion of Richard's life. Returning to Georgia, Richard spent more than 40 years as a bread distributor for Colonial Bread, known to all as the "Bread Man." After leaving the distribution position, Richard worked at the day-old bread store on Browns Bridge Road, where many people had the pleasure of being greeted with kindness and respect. Additionally, Richard worked with Hall County at the Sardis Compactor Site until just a few years ago, where he enjoyed visiting with the community and friends.

A golden, 51-year celebration was enjoyed last year, as Richard and Yvonne were married on April 24, 1965. A lifetime of love and devotion, their home is where many found warmth and happiness. Besides his two children, Richard also welcomed his nieces to live in his home; Tina, Kaye and Lesa were loved as his own. His mother, who everyone knew as Granny Ruth, experienced the devotion of her son as well, having lived many years in the Dodd home. Richard was a man whose life was lived offering love, laughter, advice, support and joy to others. He will be greatly missed by all those lives he touched.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Dodd and Ruth Dodd Woodall; additionally, Richard suffered the loss of his brother Harold many years ago. Richard is survived by his precious wife, Yvonne; his daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and Mitchell Edmonds; his son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Edith Dodd; grandchildren, Austin Edmonds, Alexandria Edmonds, Robin Dodd and Russell Dodd; a special cousin and wife, Bobby and Brenda Hambrick; and special nieces, Kaye Taylor, Lesa Rose and Tina Williams are of mention. Also suffering the loss of deep and abiding friendship are wonderful friends Mike and Arlene Hall.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
