John was born in Childress, Texas on May 24, 1926 to John Thompson Forbis and Willie (Knox) Forbis. John loved woodworking and played Santa Claus for many years where he handed out his many woodworking projects to children of the community. He was a loving father who was active in the 4-H Horse Club with his daughter, John had to learn a lot about horses as he went. He hoped to help other parents by authoring a book titled "What Parents Should Know About Horses". John graduated from Wellington High School with the Class of 1943. John graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1950 and was involved with the judicial system and through his career sat in many positions. He held the positions of City Attorney for Childress, Texas, District Attorney and District Judge of the 100th District. He also taught for the College for New Judges. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Dorothy Margaret Behen, Wilma Ruth Forbis. Survivors include: Wife - Jeanne Forbis of Childress, TX Daughter – Nancy Forbis-Stokes and husband Tony of Abilene, TX Grandson – John Forbis and wife Alisha of Amarillo, TX Grandson – Aaron Forbis-Stokes of Durham, NC Great Grandchildren – Emery Forbis, Eiley Forbis, and Jantz Forbis of Amarillo, TX Niece – Linn Coombs Niece – Leigh Kirby Nephew – John David Behen Nephew – William Behen
