Jane Ross Tye Jordan, 79, of Bethlehem, passed away, Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Brian Center in Viewmont.

Born May 22, 1937 in Vidalia, GA, she was the daughter of the late Leila Jane Bates and William Ross Tye.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Richard Jordan, Jr. and her step-mother, Dorothy Tye.

As a youth, Jane was active in 4-H and raising chickens among other activities. A champion baker, she won the cherry pie baking contest at the state level and went to the national contest in Chicago. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia, majoring in home economics. She and Richard were lifelong Bulldog fans. She worked as a county extension agent after college, but spent most of her life as a wife, mother, and homemaker.

Jane and Richard were charter members of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Hickory and were instrumental in establishing and organizing the church. She taught Sunday school for years and was active in the Women's Circle at both First Presbyterian Church and Grace Covenant. She was a leader in Bible Study Fellowship and a supporter of Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte.

An inspiration to all she met, she was the matriarch of her extended family and her church family. A consummate hostess, she organized bridge clubs, garden clubs, and supper clubs among her circle of friends. In her later years she enjoyed shopping and antiques, traveling to antique shows throughout the Carolinas. No one could outshine Jane.

She is survived by her children: Sandra Robles and husband Rodney of Kernersville, John Richard Jordan, III and wife Sandra Smith Jordan of Bethlehem, Mary Joan Jordan Florence and husband William of Hickory; grandchildren: Mary Carol Cousins and husband Asa of Brunswick, ME, John Benjamin Lookadoo and wife Kersten Denny of Hickory, Chelsie Maria Jordan of Hickory, John Ross Tye Jordan of Bethlehem, Joseph William Vaccarella, Sarah Frances Vaccarella, Kacy Camille Florence, William Parks Florence, all of Hickory; and a sister, Leila Whitaker and husband Robert of Lexington, SC.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Hickory with the Rev. Michael Gordon and the Rev. Ray Kruntorad officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church.
