Corp. Isaac was posthumously awarded the Silver Star.

The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Garreth Charles Isaak, United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as a Scout Squad Leader, Third Squad, Scout Platoon, Company D, Second Light Armored Infantry Battalion, SECOND Marine Division, Fleet Marine Forces, Panama. During the early morning hours of 20 December 1989, during Operation JUST CAUSE in the vicinity of the National Department of Traffic and Land Transportation Station Number TWO, Corporal Isaak's Squad came under intense hostile fire while attempting to secure their objective. Reacting swiftly, he continued to advance toward the building in order to clear it of hostile forces of unknown size. Once inside, Corporal Isaak unhesitatingly and fearlessly maneuvered from room to room in the face of small arms automatic weapons fire. Displaying exceptional initiative and courage with the full knowledge of the inherent dangers involved and with complete disregard for his own personal safety, he aggressively continued his advance to neutralize the hostile force. As a result of his heroic conduct, Corporal Isaak gallantly gave his own life while accomplishing the mission, thereby safeguarding the lives of his fellow Marines. By his bold initiative, heroic actions, and unfaltering devotion to duty, Corporal Isaak reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
