Lauren “Buzz” Long, age 65, of Salem, formally of Winner, passed away at his home on August 8, 2016. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Winner. Burial will follow at the Winner City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, August 12, 2015 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Winner.

Lauren (Buzz) James Long was born in Winner, SD on May 10, 1951 to Maynard (Jim) Long and Jennie Colombe Long. He attended St. Mary’s Elementary school, and later Winner High School.

On February 25, 1984 he was joined in marriage to Patricia Tate. To this union four children were born.

In August of 1994 he moved to Salem, SD where he resided until his death. He was employed until recently at Dakota Kitchen and Bath in Sioux Falls.

Over the years he was active in Masons, Boy Scouts, youth group, and volunteering in Special Olympics. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, but most of all his children.

Buzz was preceded in death by infant son, Joseph Long; his parents Jim and Jennie Long; infant brother Laird Long; infant niece, Lissa Schow; in-laws Bob and Dora Tate; and brothers-in-law Douglas Tate and Robert (Bo) Webb.

Survivors include his wife Patti Long of Salem; children Rory Long of Vermillion, Brodie Long of Mitchell, Kelsey Long of San Francisco, CA; sisters Anita (Douglas) Schow of Provo, UT and Marla (Jim) Liggett of Winner; sisters-in-law Karen Tate of Mesa, AZ, Doreen (Dennis) Lechner of Jasper, IN, Sheri Tate of Sioux Falls, and Roberta Webb of Clarkesville, TN; Aunts Lois Baker and Jeanette Long; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.

A memorial service for Buzz will be held at the Salem United Church at a later date.
