John I. Wegner, age 76, of 734 S. State St., Mishicot, entered into
eternal rest on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004 at the Hamilton Memorial Home
in Two Rivers after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004 at
Zion United Methodist Church in Mishicot, with the Rev. Sonia Alvarado
officiating, with burial to follow in the Mishicot Public Cemetery.
John was born April 27, 1928 in the town of Two Rivers, to the late
Joseph and Catherine Metz Wegner and has been a lifelong area resident.
He was a graduate of the Mishicot High School with the class of 1947 He
married the former Joyce Witte, on June 28, 1952 at Emanuel United
Methodist Church in Two Rivers. John was employed for many years at
Oriental Milling Company until his retirement in 1992. After his
retirement he drove school bus for the Mishicot Public School District.
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Mishicot, where he
served as treasurer for many years, and also worked as the church
custodian. He served on the Mishicot Village Board for two terms. He was
an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards, especially sheepshead. He also
enjoyed walking his son Doug's dog, "Sassy." and his morning gatherings
with his breakfast friends.
John is survived by his wife, Joyce; three sons and two
daughters-in-law: Brian Wegner of Arlington, Va.,; Bruce and Gail Wegner
of Francis Creek; Douglas and Renee Wegner of Two Rivers; five
grandchildren: Jeff and Michaela Wegner, Heather and Amber Wegner, and
Ian Lawler. He is also survived by two sisters: Louise Braul of Stevens
Point; and Catherine Bertler of Green Bay; and by his three brothers:
Clement (Lois) Wegner of DePere; Joseph Wegner of Augusta, Wis.; and
Robert Wegner of Durand, Wis. He is further survived by his two
sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law; Rachel Zik, Jerome and Belvia
Witte, all of Two Rivers; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in
death by one brother: Lawrence Wegner; and by three sisters-in-law and
four brothers-in-law.
Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the
Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home in Mishicot. Visitation will continue after
10 a.m. on Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church in Mishicot until
the time of service at 11 a.m.
The Wegner family wishes to extend a very special thank you to the
entire staff of the Harmony Assisted Living Facility and to the Hamilton
Memorial Home for their special care and concerns extended to John and
our family during John's illness.
