YOUNGSTOWN - Dale Ernest McDonald, 62, passed away early Saturday afternoon, Aug. 6, 2016, at his mother’s home following a brief illness.

Dale was born March 24, 1954, in Youngstown, a son of Ernest F. and Louise Baker McDonald, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1972 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Nashville. Dale worked for the City of Youngstown in code enforcement.

Mr. McDonald was a member of St. Michael Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church on Steel Street in Youngstown, where he was president of the congregation.

Dale loved music and attending the Youngstown Symphony and various concerts. He also had great fun driving his MG and riding his Harley. He was known for his big heart, great advice, and his willingness to help everyone he met.

Dale is survived by his mother, Louise Baker McDonald Hollis; three brothers, Alan (Christine) McDonald, Ernest (Sandra) McDonald, and George McDonald; two sisters, Audrey (Fred) Popp and Mary Lou (Jorge) Alexandres; seven nieces, Gina and Ericka Alexandres, Nicole and Alexandria McDonald, Emily (Keith) Ellsworth, Hollyann (Payson) Cowie, and Veronica (Christopher) Sprung; a nephew and godson, Blake McDonald; two great-nephews; and a great-niece.

His father, Ernest, preceded him in death.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 North Meridian Road, Youngstown. Family and friends may also call from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 11, at the funeral home, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.

Interment with military honors will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in Youngstown.

Mr. McDonald’s family sends heartfelt thanks to Dale’s lifelong friends who have been with him, especially Guy Schooley, Karyn Joseph, Kevin and Janet Johnson, and Mark Hancock, for all of their help in his final days. Also, special thanks to Rev. George Hutnyan, pastor emeritus of St. Michael Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church, for his spiritual guidance and blessings during this difficult time.
