Rachel Jane was the second child and first daughter of the six children of Patrick Jordan (born 1829 in Dublin and died in service during the Civil War) and Georgianna Call (born in 1828 at Call's Landing in Ramapo. NY and died in Haverstraw in 1869). Rachel married Isaac Rose about 1872 and the couple made their home at Stony Point. Isaac was a sailor and Rachel a housewife raising six children, one son and five daughters; two other children died in infancy. The 1910 census indicates that she was his second wife, married to him for 37 years, and that they had had eight children, five of them at that time still surviving (their only son Earl had died, as had two unnamed infants).

Six of their children survived infancy: Carolina (called Cora or Carrie; 1874-1933), Grace A. (1877-1926), Earl (1879-1892), Catherine T. (called Kitty; b. 1882), Hannah S. (1883-1924), and Adeline Marie (called Addie; b. 1886). Carrie, Kitty, and Hannah remained single and Earl died young. Grace married Robert M. McLaughlin (b. 1874) in Manhattan in 1907; the couple had no children. Addie married Ernest L. Pugh (1880-1950) in Stony Point in 1910; they had one daughter, Hilda G., b. in 1913.

When Rachel's husband died in 1913, she remained in Stony Point with her unmarried daughters Kitty and Hannah. Hannah taught school and Kitty worked in sales at a department store. They are in the censuses of 1915 and 1920 as such.

Rachel's' death is recorded in Manhattan on 29 Sept. 1922. ("New York, New York City Municipal Deaths, 1795-1949," Rachael J. Rose, 29 Sep 1922; citing Death, Manhattan, New York, New York, United States, New York Municipal Archives, New York; FHL microfilm 2,028,251.) She is buried at Mt. Rest cemetery in Stony point beside her husband and other family members.
