Jens Peter Nielsen was born October
27, 1855 at Tjornetved, Shalland,
Denmark. He immigrated to
this country in 1873, living at Independence,
Iowa, about three years.
They came to Newell in 1876, making
Newell his home until his death,
March 23, 1932, aged 76 years, five
months and twenty-five days.
He was united in marriage to
Miss Ellen Marie Hansen March 29,
1884 at Newell. To them were born
five children, Henry D. and Mrs.
Mina Jensen, and Albert; Charles,
who fell in France November 3,
1918 during the World war and one
daughter, who died in infancy.
Mr. Nielsen with his wife, united
with the First Baptist church of
Newell March 17, 1889 and was a
faithful member and attendant until
ill health overtook him.
Mr. Nielsen was one of the hardy
pioneers of Buena Vista county,
coming here about sixty years ago.
With his family he lived on a
farm six miles north of Newell for
thirty-one years, retjrtfjg to Newell
in 1931. He made his home with
his daughter, Mrs. S. V. Jensen the
last few years. His wife preceded
him in death seven years ago. He
Iwas the last of his immediate famly,
his three sisters having also
preceded him in death.
Mr. Nielsen was an industrious
and honest man, a good husband,
father and neighbor.
He leaves to mourn, two sons,
Henry D. of Newell and Albert of
New Underwood, South Dakota; one
daughter, Mrs. S. V. Jensen and two
granddaughters, Mrs. Myrtle Wirkus
and little Marcella Jean Nielsen.
