Farber & Otteman Funeral Home

Marge Frank peacefully passed away at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, IA, on Monday, August 8, 2016.

Marjorie Elaine Hess was born on May 9, 1928, on the family farm south of Ulmer to Fred and Minnie (Mohr) Hess. She was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church Ulmer, on June 9, 1928, and was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Ulmer on May 25, 1941. She received her education at Country School Sac #3 and graduated on May 15, 1945, from Wall Lake High School.

She was employed at Auburn Savings Bank and was married on December 11, 1949, to Raymond Frank at Peace Lutheran Church Ulmer. After Peace Lutheran Church closed they transferred their membership to Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn, where she taught Sunday school, was an active member of the Ladies Aid, serving as President and participated in many LWML events. She belonged to a ladies card club and the couple belonged to the Zion Couples Club.

Marge, who lived on her family’s third generation farm west of Auburn until moving to Lake View in 2007, was a busy farm wife, delivering lunches to the fields and eggs to gather. She managed two gardens, an orchard and grapes and canned lots of fruits and vegetables for her family. Her children would pick wild cone flowers that grew along the nearby railroad tracks and bring Marge bouquets. She was a very devout wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Marge enjoyed doing handiwork, needlepoint, sewing and quilting and also enjoyed playing the organ. She and Raymond often enjoyed ballroom dancing. Marge loved to plan and host many family get-togethers for holidays, birthdays and special occasions. Everyone looked forward to her wonderful homemade meals, especially the frozen strawberry and mint desserts at Christmastime, the angel food with peanut butter frosting for Raymond’s birthday, the specially decorated Halloween cookies and fudgins for Christmas. She never tired of playing games and reading books with her grandchildren.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Minnie Hess; her in-laws Ernest and Angie Frank; brothers-in-law Ralph Mohr, Marvin Frank and LaVern Frank; sister-in-law Marlis Bell; and grandsons: Kevin Frank and Jon Frank.
