Barbara Richardson Calhoun, 65, of Newland, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Avery County, she was a daughter of the late William Ray Richardson and the late Essie Shell Richardson. She was a member of the Newland Christian Church and enjoyed her flower gardening, bird watching and doll collecting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ferrell Calhoun, who passed away on June 14, 2016.

Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Marcie Waycaster, and husband, Chad, of Elk Park, Lance Calhoun of Newland; a grandson, Drew Waycaster; sisters, Ella Freeman, and husband, Jimmy, of Powder Mill, Darlene Langrudi, and husband, T.L., of Watha, NC, and Connie Stout of Elk Park.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Crossnore First Baptist Church, where her and Ferrell got married. Interment will follow in the Fork Mountain Cemetery.
