Harold Soldinger, 78, passed on early Sunday morning, March 24, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.

Born July 21, 1917, in Averne, Long Island, N.Y., he attended and graduated from an art and business school in New York City. In 1936, he joined Warner Brothers Studios and worked under famed artist Leon Schlesinger at Warner Brothers Animation, bringing cartoon characters to life, such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and Elmer Fudd. In 1940, he joined the Army Signal Corps Motion Picture Division, where he supervised the making of military training films. He was stationed at Fort Monroe, Va., where he met his wife Annette. They were married in 1942. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to Hollywood to resume his career. He joined RKO Studios as a film editor where he remained for several years working with many of today's film legends. In 1951, Soldinger returned to Norfolk and joined WTAR-TV, subsequently becoming vice president. He worked there seventeen years and then joined Lin Broadcasting's WAVY-TV, serving as Vice President for the next 12 years. He retired in 1980.

Throughout the years, Soldinger contributed his energies to many civic activities. Gov. Linwood Holton appointed him to the Virginia Racing Commission and to the Board of Directors of the Virginia Science Museum. He also served as vice president of Temple Israel and as a member of the Tidewater Artists Association.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Annette Peltz Soldinger, his children Lynn S. King and her husband Ron of Virginia Beach, Nancy S. Embree and her husband David of Virginia Beach; and Steven Soldinger and his wife Judy of Charlotte, N.C., as well as seven grandchildren: Darren, Dana, and Cara King, Brad and Alyssa Embree, and David and Rebecca Soldinger, and two sisters, Mrs. Roslyn Wiseman of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Florence Zisman of Scottsdale, Ariz.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 1996, at The Hebrew Cemetery, Hampton, by Rabbi Michael E. Panitz and Cantor Yael Fischman.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to a charity of your choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk will be handling the arrangements.
