Theodore means God Given.

Teddy arrived at our house about 6 mos. before we had to put our beloved pom "Scottie" to sleep. He truly was heaven sent.

Teddy-Bear was a rescue. He showed up at our home on a very hot summer day (9/8/2000). I saw him playfully running on the lawn around our home. Alone, but he seemed so happy to be free. He did not seem distressed about being abandoned or lost.

Teddy was very thin. His fur was matted and covered in burrs. I couldn't catch him, even with the help of my pom "Scottie." I resorted to leaving a trail of kibbles and treats to get him inside where I could give him some food and water and get him out of the heat.

When Teddy discovered he was trapped in the house he ran to the nearest corner and made himself small. Trying to hide, and growling at me like he was an attack dog. It broke my heart to think he was so frightened of me.

As he cowered in the corner, I pushed little treats toward him - with bits of a mild sedative hidden inside. After a couple of hours I was able to reach out and touch him, gently stroking his fur. He was so thin and underfed, I wanted to cry.

When he realized (in his drugged state) that I meant him no harm, he finally relaxed. I was able to pick him up and hold him in my lap. I spent all night gently talking to him, stroking his dirty, matted coat, and picking the stickers out of his fur.

Teddy must have been very abused. He did not like strangers. It took a long time before Teddy learned to trust my husband. He was terrified of, and disliked men all his life.

Teddy must have known he had been rescued from a horrible past life. He seemed to appreciate every thing we did to give him a good life. I made every effort to make up for those bad years. He was spoiled and loved beyond measure.

Having a "rescue" dog works both ways - I became his forever protector and he trusted me completely. In return he gave me his unconditional love. He was always by my side. We were bonded together forever, from the minute I found him.

Teddy was born with some birth defects. He only had vision in one eye and his face was a little crooked. It just made him all the more adorable. He was missing some teeth when he came to us, but otherwise healthy. He wasn't the smartest dog in the world, but he loved his mom and dad with all his heart. We had many good years with "Bear."

The best trick Teddy ever did was a very impressive "Moon Walk." He would amaze anyone who saw him suddenly go in reverse and shuffle/drag his back feet across the carpet, sometimes clear across the room! I don't know how he learned his little moon walk, he just did it one day while begging a treat. He would moon walk on command, he loved showing off his special dance.

He also enjoyed going camping. He was the best travel dog and loved our long trips in the car. He went everywhere with us. Teddy Bear was so precious. Always missed.

A heart of gold stopped beating
Two shining eyes at rest
God broke my heart to prove,
He only takes the best.
I knew you had to leave me,
But you did not go alone,
For part of me went with you
The day God took you home.
Although we are apart
Your spirit lives within me
Forever in my heart.
I know you are watching over me
And are with me when I cry
So with one more kiss
Upon your face,
Goodbye My Love Goodbye

Love Ya Bear.
