Jimmy L. Smith passed away on April 17th, 2022.

He was born in Tyler, Texas on November 16th, 1937.

He was a graduate of John Tyler High School, in Tyler Texas.

He attended the University of Texas for two years, then attended Lamar University for one year, and the University of Houston one semester.

He was a graduate of Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Program receiving the top honor award for outstanding sheet metal apprenticeship student for four years.

He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserve for six years and graduated from boot camp as Platoon Honor Man.

He later received an Honorable discharge from the Marine Corps as a Sergeant.

Jimmy was a hard worker, and dedicated 44 years of faithful service as Vice President with McCorvey Sheet Metal Works Inc. before his retirement.

Jimmy lived in Channelview, Texas for over 50 years.

He was elected to the Channelview ISD Board of Trustees in 1980 and served in every capacity- President, Vice President, secretary, and chaplain, several times during his 20-year tenure.

Jimmy was ordained as a Deacon on June 2nd, 2013, for Dell Dale Avenue Baptist Church, where he also served on the Board of Trustees for three years.

He loved to teach the Adult Men's Bible Study class, which was his favorite church activity.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother, Willie E. Strickland; father, Leonard E. Smith, wife of 60 years, Patricia Ann Smith; sons, Jeffrey Scott Smith and Stephen Lynn Smith; and brother, Billy Pat Kilpatrick.

He is survived by his son and wife, daughter-in-law; and siblings, in addition to numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends.

The family would like you to join them on Friday, April 22nd, 2022 for a visitation at Dell Dale Avenue Baptist Church from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. with funeral services to begin at 11:30 A.M.

A police escorted funeral procession will then depart for a 1:00 P.M. graveside service with active military honors at San Jacinto Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Conley Funeral Home.
