Ricky Lynn Cooper was born on Aug. 31, 1948, in Drumright, Oklahoma, and departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, in Shawnee at the age of 67.
Rick, the son of James and Marie (Ashlock) Cooper, was a resident of Shawnee. After an All-State campaign in basketball Rick went on to play basketball for Oklahoma State University from 1966 until 1969 for Hall of Fame Coach, Mr. Iba. Rick's senior year he garnered 2nd team Big 8 honors and was the leading scorer for Mr. Iba's final season, in fact, he made the final bucket of Mr. Iba's career. The family tradition of athletes carried on giving Rick one of his favorite pastimes, watching his grandchildren compete. Watching wasn't enough for Rick, however, the "Stat Man" kept and maintained stats on all of his grandchildren throughout their high school and college careers. He was an "expert" at playing spades and he loved Christmas, but nothing compared to time he was able to spend with his family and friends.
Rick's parents and one brother, Jackie Cooper preceded him in death.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law: Jeff and Leslie Cooper of Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law: Jennifer and Jeremiah Seymour of Shawnee; his wife: Judy; grandchildren: Taylor, McKenzie, Austin and Cooper; brother and sister-in-law: James and Linda Cooper of Suriname; sister and brother-in-law: Susan and Gary Evers of Moore; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Jane and Charlie Kusiak; nieces and nephews: Lori and Kenny Arthur, Charles and Brandi Kusiak, Lisa and Greg Conzano, Michael Pychinka, Jacob Williams, Derek Evers, Dillion Evers, Caden Arthur, Addie Arthur, and Riley Kusiak.
