CUMBERLAND – Janet Lee Ellsworth, 79, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 5, 2016, at the home of her daughter, where she resided, surrounded by her family.

Born October 2, 1936, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Norma and John S. Chaney and the late Edgar McKenney.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James “Bromo” Ellsworth, Jr.

Mrs. Ellsworth graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1955. She worked at Jerry’s Confectionary in her teens then married and became a housewife and wonderful mother to her children and many of their friends. Later, she worked at the Chicken Nest and Lindy’s restaurant doing what she loved – cooking for many others. She also enjoyed duckpin bowling, working in the garden, canning, plastic canvas, and crafting. She actively supported her children in everything they did.

She was also active in the VFW Post 1411 for many years, where she was President of the Ladies Auxiliary for 15 years. She was a member of Unit 13 American Legion and the Eagles Auxiliary in Cumberland. She was an active member in the Gulf War Memorial located in Cumberland.

She is survived by her three daughters and one son, Sherry Haines and husband Randy, Wiley Ford, WV, Pam Ellsworth, Cumberland, and twins, Mark A. Ellsworth, Cresaptown, and Monica L. Clayton and husband Jackson, Brewton, AL.

Mrs. Ellsworth is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, J.C. McDonald and wife Nicole, and their children, Peyton, Kinsey, and Colton, Live Oak, FL; Brent McDonald, Sr. and wife Brandi, and their children, Brent, Jr., Andralyn, and Jayden, Locust Grove, VA; Derek Haines and his children, Addyson and Jaxon, Cumberland; Marcus Haines and wife Sarah, Cresaptown; Evan Clayton and Kendal Clayton, Brewton, AL; Savannah Ellsworth, Ridgeley; and Kara Chastain and husband Ed, and their children, Lexie and William, Greenback, TN; one brother, George E. McKenney and wife Katherine, Cumberland; and one sister-in-law, Janet Rinehart, Mexico Farms.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, August 8, from 6 to 9 p.m. A combined memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. by the VFW and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 9, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Harold McClay, Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap.
