ABILENE – James Edward Munson, 85, of Abilene died Thursday, August 4, 2016 at his home in Abilene, Texas.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday August 9, 2016 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Abilene, Texas with Reverend Nawarskas officiating. Rosary service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Monday followed by visitation at Bailey-Howard Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside service with Navy honors will be held at Clyde Catholic Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

James Edward Munson was born August 21, 1930 to Johnnie Munson Sr. and Irene Lawler in Clyde, Texas.

At a young age his father died and his mother married his brother Joe who raised James from a small child.

He was a graduate of Clyde High School.

He joined the Unites States Navy serving during the Korean War.

He married the love of his life Beverly Willbanks in Clyde on January 23, 1954. They would later move to Abilene where he would start the Munson Insurance Agency operating it for 55 years.

He was a member of the Holy family Catholic Church which he was a founding member and the VFW.

James is survived by his wife Beverly, one son; James Munson and wife Teri of Clyde, one daughter; Sharon Payne and husband Clifford of Clyde, one brother; Byrd Munson of Livingston, three sisters; Dorothy Caffey and husband Curtis of Abilene, Marie Marshall of Abilene, and Pat Smith of Ft Worth, and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his Father, his stepfather Joe Munson, daughter Lynn Munson Reese three brothers; Donald Munson, Johnie Munson, Jr., and Raymond Munson and one sister; Ann Dezern.
