Gordon Bennett Pace 1907 ~ 2007 Gordon Bennett Pace, (affectionately called Grandpa by all who knew him), 99 yrs 7 months, beloved patriarch of our family, passed away January 30, 2007 at Heritage Care Facility in Bountiful, Utah of causes incident to age.

He was born in South Bountiful on June 22, 1907 to Edwin Pace Jr. and Elizabeth Bennett Pace; the ninth of 11 children. As a child the family moved back and forth from Bountiful to Sanpete County where he helped on the farm and eventually met Elizabeth Ann James in Fayette, Utah whom he married September 16, 1925 in the Manti LDS Temple. They moved to Bountiful in 1926, where four children were born to this union.

Gordon was a farmer, truck gardener, service station attendant, and also worked at Smedly Fruit Market in SLC before he fulfilled a life long dream of having an ice cream store, the Dairy Queen at 2nd South and Main in Bountiful. He then built his own building at 1180 S. 5th West in 1957 and started Pace's Dairy Ann. He and Lizzie created famous ice cream products still being sold in three Pace stores in Davis County and in several surrounding states.

Gordon was involved in church and business areas. He was a member of the Bountiful Lions Club for 20 years; served as president of the Bountiful Chapter of the Sons of Pioneers when they built the national headquarters in North Parleys Canyon, and was a member for many years; he served as High Priest Group Leader, and served for 45 years as a worker in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, which he considered a privilege and a blessing.

Gordon loved the mountains and was an avid hunter, sportsman, and outdoorsman. His fame and expertise in this area spread until he became the subject of a book and film as a lion hunter, tracking and catching mountain lions alive. This film was widely shown across the western United States. He also won hundreds of trophies and ribbons at field trials with his trail hounds.

Gordon was an example of love, humility, self control, dedication, reliability, honesty, unselfishness, hard work, and generosity. He was so proud of and rejoiced greatly as each new baby arrived. He helped raise Dorothy's two children. He loved and was concerned for each of his posterity in these Latter-days.

He was preceded in death by his beautiful, beloved, eternal companion Elizabeth, and his youngest son, Ralph. He is survived by his eldest daughter Faye Shackelford, his eldest son Arnold (Laura Mae), daughter Dorothy Pratt, 19 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren and 70 (and counting) great-great-grandchildren. His influence will be felt for years to come, and he will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Woods Cross North Stake 3rd Ward Chapel, 1450 S. 350 West, Bountiful, Utah.
