HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. — Suspected killer George Freeland, was escorted into the Henry County Jail, Thursday afternoon after a nearly 16-hour manhunt.

“We got a call (Wednesday) afternoon about a man who had been in a fight,” Henry County Sheriff investigator Adam Jenkins said. “The call came in from the ER, he had been taken up there and had extensive injuries.”

Investigator Adam Jenkins says before Tracy Attaway died, he told officers Freeland was the one who had assaulted him. Deputies immediately began their search for the 43-year-old.

“Henry County deputies along with U.S. Marshals started searching for George Freeland around 9 o’clock (Wednesday) night for allegedly assaulting a man who later died at the hospital.”

Around 1 o’clock Thursday afternoon, deputies caught up with Freeland who now faced an additional count of reckless homicide.

“He was down at the lake area,” Jenkins said. “We had a tip that he was at a certain house and he was found not to far from there. There wasn’t any type of altercation to my knowledge but we had to take him into custody. He didn’t come forward and turn himself in.”

Investigators said at this point, they are unclear what prompted the deadly fight or how the two knew one another.

Freeland is being held in the Henry County Jail in lieu of a $200,000 bond. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance, Tuesday.
