According to Dartmouth Mass. birth records, Ebenezar (with an a) was born to Ebenezar and Lydia (Thrasher) Blackman May 22,1778. His siblings are Mary(March 23,1770), Hannah(May 30, 1774), James(April 29,1781), Sybil(June 7,1783), and Lemuel(Feb. 14, 1786). He married Mary Smith in Seneca County New York between 1806 and 1809 and together had 8 children. They moved to Steuben County, part of which became Yates County. Mary died in 1829 and Ebenezer married Sarah "Sally" Look. He moved to Scott County Iowa in 1838. Sometime before his probate filing in April 1846 (8 mos. before Iowa became a state), he had replaced the a with an e and became Ebenezer. He is buried in an unmarked grave west of his great grandchildren Ethel and Frank Blackman and north of the 4 Roswell Spencer children. Parent of Aruba, Lewis, Stephen Smith, Alden, Ebenezer III, Rachel, Nancy, and one infant.
