Vera Beatrice Valentine, 78, was born to Joesephus and Myrtle (Flowers) Hester. Vera grew up in southern Alabama and was a textile worker for a short time. On March 20, 1952, she was united in marriage to Lee Valentine in Benson, Minnesota. A military wife for 23 years, Vera followed her husband on many assignments, keeping the family together. Vera was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Canon City. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, camping, and gardening, but most of all loved taking care of her children. A very gifted seamstress, Vera enjoyed sewing for her children as well as her husband. She had a very special love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Valentine is survived by her husband, Lee; children, Donna (John) Hutchinson, Gwenna (Bob) Basham, Selena (Paul) Heckler, Vera (Roger) Gillespie, Gary Valentine, and daughter-in-law Jacqueline Valentine; 28 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Minnie Johnson and Ouida Swain; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Kittie Koseck; 2 grandsons; 1 great grandson; 1 great granddaughter; 1 great-great granddaughter; and brother, Leroy Hester; and sisters, Ida Lee Hester and Mamie Hester.

Visitation will be from 7:00 until 10:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Holt Family Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Canon City, CO.
Entombment will follow at Mountain Vale Memorial Park.
