Last Rites Held Tuesday For Mrs. Mary A. Jackson
With the passing of Mrs. Mary A. Jackson, widow of Felix Jackson, early Sunday Morning, which was brought about by a fall sustained a week previous in her home on South Liberty street, one of Rushville’s elder and beloved women is at rest. Her life of almost ninety years was spent in Rushville in the early forties only a stone’s throw, on the same side of street, from where their daughter had lived for a half century, and where she died. While she found her greatest pleasure in her home and its environs, Mrs. Jackson was deeply interested in the welfare of others and this continued thruout her life, and her kindly ministrations and sympathetic nature endeared her to an increasing number of friends. The later years of her life were happy ones. As her family was extended to the fourth generation, she looked forward eagerly to the homecomings and entered heartily into the spirit of the occasion. Blessed thruout her life with good health, Mrs. Jackson retained her mental faculties to a remarkable degree, and was vigorous and active up to the very day of the accident that proved fatal. She would not have been happy had she been unable to get about and look after her household and tend the flowers, she so generously shared with others thruout her life, and the end came quietly and peacefully at the dawn of another day.

The following tribute to the memory of Mrs. Jackson was read at the funeral services:
Mary Ann Greer, daughter of James and Martha Greer, was born Feb. 22, 1849, on a farm two miles north of Rushville. She grew to womanhood in this community, after attending the public schools. On Sep. 1, 1872, she was married to Felix Jackson and they made their home in Rushville, where Mr. Jackson conducted a store. He died on April 21, 1921. To this union were born three sons, Vail, now of Craig, Colo.,, Victor S. and Lloyd of Rushville. For the past several years a brother, Samuel E. Greer, has made his home with Mrs. Jackson, and now her passing leaves him the last of a family of eight children. She left us on Sunday Morning July 3, 1938, at 3:30 o’clock; aged 89 years, 4 months and 11 days. Mrs. Jackson is survived by her three sons, her brother, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was a lady of the old school, of whom all too few remain, whose home was the center of the universe, and whose friends came to her thru the charm of her personality rather than thru her activates in club and society spheres. Here life was marked by her devotion to all her relatives and friends, and her passionate fondness for her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Jackson joined the Rushville Methodist church when just a girl of eleven. She had been baptized on June 9, 1857, received on probation March 28, 1860, and was received into full membership of the church October 7, 1860. So her length of membership goes back to the Civil war period, as she has been a member seventy-eight years. At a recent service in the church, held in honor of those who had been members fifty years or more, she responded with few words as one who had been a member of our church longer than any other person.
