Mr. Richard A. Dempsey 81 of Beverly, beloved husband of the late Alice (Cleaves) Dempsey, died unexpectedly, Sunday, July 10, 2016.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mildred (Perkins) Dempsey. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1953.

Mr. Dempsey began his professional career with the Shetland Company where he worked for 14 years; he then was associated with the Alano East Manufacturing Company for three years and the general Electric Company for 3 years. He worked as a Quality Control Inspector for over 26 years with Chesterton Company of Groveland until the time of his retirement in 2001.

Richard and Alice were inseparable. They travelled extensively throughout the world. They enjoyed spending their time together dancing in competitions of all styles and over the years were awarded many awards for their grace and elegance. A 52 year resident of the City of Beverly, Mr. Dempsey was an accomplished bowler with a 113 average and was a member of the Sunday Professional Candlepin Bowling League in Beverly for many years. He was a member of the Danvers Fish and Game Club, the Georgetown Hunt Club and the National Rifleman's Association. He also enjoyed fishing and camping.

Richard is survived by his sister, Patricia Brosque and her husband John of Marblehead, his nieces, Tina Brosque and Debbie Hall, his great nieces, Hannah and Katherine. He was the step-father of the late Edward LaPlante and brother of the late Ernest Dempsey Jr.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in The O'Donnell Funeral Home 46 Washington Sq., (At Salem Common) Salem, Saturday, July 16th at 10:30 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Central Cemetery, Beverly. Visiting hours prior to the service from 9 to 10 A.M
