2016 Richard J. Koch Youth Service Award

Bruce “Woody” Wood, 67, of Quincy, passed away peacefully July 29, 2016 surrounded by his loving family after a three year courageous battle with cancer.

Woody’s proudest role was being a husband, father, and especially papa to his six grandchildren who gave him the most joy in life. Woody was a man who wore so many “hats” – he was proud owner of Wood Commercial Painting for 41 years.

Throughout the years he held many positions in the city of Quincy, a city that he loved so much. Some of the positions that Woody held in Quincy were President of Quincy Youth Hockey Board for 31 years, member of the Quincy Rotary Club, Quincy Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Board member and Coach of Quincy Youth Soccer, Quincy Zoning Board of Appeals, Quincy Youth Baseball Coach and Weymouth Lodge of Elks. The city of Quincy loved him in return, making him the recipient of the 2016 Richard J. Koch Youth Service Award, which he received at this year’s Flag Day parade.

Woody proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves 187th Support Battalion C Company. Woody had a passion for the Bruins, Red Sox, Patriots, and old cars especially “Papa’s Baby” his 1967 GTO. He will be remembered for his quick wit, practical jokes, wonderful sense of humor and his contagious smile. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Cherished husband of Catherine Griffin Wood of Quincy. Loving father of Michael Wood and his wife Tricia; Brian Wood and his wife Melissa; Eric Wood; Timothy Wood and his wife Kara; and Christine Shields and her husband Greg all of Massachusetts.
