He served in the US National Guard for 13 years until 1989 and worked in security at the Henry County Hospital. He and his son Jason also served on the Bronson, Ky Volunteer Fire Dept. He was an avid sports fan of NASCAR especially #24 Jeff Gordon and also University of Kentucky Basketball. He was a big supporter of school fund raisers, loved to joke with his nieces and nephews and gave them all nicknames.
Jackie is survived by his wife and loving caregiver of 25 years, Janet (Clapp) Crabtree; one son, Jason Ray Crabtree of KY; two brothers, Johnny Allman and Joey Crabtree (companion Vesta) all of New Castle; one sister, Allene (Charlie) Duvall of Albany, KY; his mother-in-law, Edna Portell and father-in-law, Charles Clapp, both of New Castle; several brothers and sister-in-laws; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; two special friends, Dave Golliher and Kelly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harmie Crabtree; a half-sister, Lexie Kennedy; a nephew, Joseph Scott Crabtree; a great-nephew, Phillip Austin Murphy.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wed., Aug. 3,2016 at Hacker-Main & Davis Funeral Home, Broad Street Chapel, New Castle, IN with Pastor John Bates of Kentucky officiating. Military rites will be offered at the funeral home by New Castle American Legion Post #137 and VFW Post #1282. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery-Westlawn Addition. There will be envelopes provided for donations to help with the expenses.
