In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lourdes Hospice Care Center, PO Box 7100, Paducah, KY 42002-7100.

Mr. Grimes retired from the city of Union City in 1998, where he served as the Director of Public Works. Prior to his employment as Public Works Director, he had been employed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation for many years. Working in public service was a perfect fit for him because he had a servant’s heart. He counted it a privilege to be able to serve his community and his neighbors in any capacity. He was generous, kind-hearted, and a wonderful example of Christian love to his family, friends, and all that knew him. He was of the Church of God faith.

He also was a veteran of the US Army.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shelby Eason Grimes, and daughter Kesha Grimes, both of Union City; and daughter Kim Grimes Crider, son-in-law Kevin Crider and two grandchildren, Payton and Paxton Crider, all of Arlington, KY. Also surviving are four brothers: Cloyce Grimes (Hazeleen), Bill Mitchell (Shirley), Larry Mitchell (Nancy), and Dennis Mitchell (Nena), all of Hornbeak; two special aunts: Rose Huey of Hornbeak and Ray Nelle McMillon of Obion; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Grimes and Maxine Huey Mitchell; two brothers Jerry Grimes and McElroy (Hoggie) Grimes and a sister, Patsy Poole.
