Marion Steven Dixon passed away suddenly Aug. 1, 2016, at his St. Simons home. He was 64 years old.

Steve was retired from UPS, where he was employed for almost 30 years. He was the former center supervisor at the Brunswick facility. When he retired from UPS in 2008, he was a loss prevention manager for the company. He started as a driver with the company in 1979, and worked his way up to various management positions. He played a key role in providing security for the G-8 summit when it came to Sea Island in 2004.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Judy Walker Dixon of St. Simons; his daughter, Anna Dixon of St. Simons; his grandchildren, Davene Elizabeth Dixon, Chadwick Gates Dixon and Thomas Wells Dixon, all of St. Simons; and his mother-in-law, Effie Mae Walker of St. Simons. He is also survived by three sisters, Patti Girardin of Valdosta, Ga.; Sheila Revell of Augusta, Ga., and Jane Silman of Blackshear; and twin brothers, Terry Dixon of St. Simons and Jerry Dixon of Blackshear.

Steve was preceded in death by his son, Steven Chadwick Dixon of St. Simons; and his parents, M.L. and Leona Watkins Dixon of Blackshear, Ga.

Steve was born Dec. 1, 1951, in Waycross, Ga., and was raised in nearby Blackshear. He attended public schools in Blackshear, and graduated from Blackshear High in 1970. He was employed at his father’s car dealership and later at the Pontiac dealership in Waycross. He and Judy married May 1, 1973, and they lived in Blackshear. He joined UPS in 1979 and worked out of the Blackshear center for a year before transferring to Brunswick. He and his family lived in Brunswick for five years before moving to St. Simons, where he lived the rest of his life. He and Judy were married 45 years.

Steve enjoyed boating, fishing, cooking and beach music and Motown music. He was particularly adept around the grill. His dance skills were second to none. But most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family, particularly his three grandchildren. He was at his happiest with the triplets and was known to often care for all three by himself.

Steve enjoyed vacationing at various Florida beaches and visited Ponce Inlet just days before his death. Another joy were his annual trips to Disney World with the triplets.

Steve will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a close friend to many.

A funeral service is at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, at the St. Simons United Methodist Church
