She was a member of Merry Hill Baptist Church where her funeral was held on August 3, 2016, with The Rev. Stanley Nixon officiating. She was the daughter of the late James Norman and Willie Britt Phelps and the widow of Edward H. Daniels. Additionally, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Norman Phelps, Jr. She was survived by a sister, Sarah P. Mitchell; a son, Chuck E. Daniels (Rita); two daughters, Bonnie D. Lucas (Gordy) and Margaret D. Adams (Michael); six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and extended family of relatives and friends. She worked as a typist at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard during WWII.
