Joseph J. Suding, 82, Batesville, died Monday, Nov. 7, 1994, in Margaret Mary Community Hospital, Batesville.
Born April 10, 1912, in Batesville, he was the son of Joseph and Veronica (Walke) Suding. On Aug. 19, 1931, he married Leona C. Nauert in the St. Louis Catholic Church, Batesville, and she survives.
He was a member of the St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville and a member of the Batesville Fire Department for 39 years, from 1938 to 1977. He served as assistant fire chief 18 years. He was a charter member of the Knights of St. John of Batesville. A member of Rescue 10 Life Squad from 1954 to 1977 and a member of the Community Fire Association for 24 years. He was a retired mechanic and drove the wrecker service for car dealerships, serving with the former Guethline Motors, Metzler Motors, Bernie Fields Motors and Jim Flodder Motors.
In addition to his widow, survivors include a daughter, Virginia Mellene, Indianapolis; a brother, Charles Suding, Batesville; two sisters, Josephine Wissel of Batesville and Ann Beuke, Milford, Ohio; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded i death by two brothers, Herman and Edwared Suding and four sisters, Matilda Starke, Marie Benton, Bertha Mae Suding and Antoinette Suding.
Fr. Bill Farris will officiate the services at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Louis Catholic Church, Batesville.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home Batesville.
There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
There will be a Fire Department memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at he funeral home.
Memorials may go to the Phi Beta Psi Sorority Cancer Research Project.
