She was born May 24, 1919 in Ellsworth, Kansas, the daughter of Herman and Essie (Evans) Bornschein.
She was the salutatorian of her high school class in Ellsworth, and then attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas, where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and received a degree in primary education.
She married Thomas Edward Woods, also of Ellsworth, Kansas on September 2, 1944.
They moved to Wichita, Kansas, where he practiced law for seventeen years.
They retired to a farm near Hindsville, Arkansas in 1962, with their three daughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant daughter.
Freda is survived by her three daughters and one son-in-law, Elaine Woods Hansen (and Douglas) of Seattle, Washington, Gail Woods Duncan of Memphis, Tennessee, and Martha Woods of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by two grandsons and two granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter: Justin and Brandy Duncan and their daughter Keara, Seth Duncan and Carrie Billings, and Laura Duncan, all of Memphis, Tennessee, and Eva Hansen of Seattle, Washington.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2016, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with The Reverend Les Elam of First Baptist Church of Hindsville officiating.
Private interment will be in the Buckeye Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville, Arkansas.
