OBITUARY OF RICHARD ACKLEY
60-year resident of Rome, NY, Richard Ackley, 95 recently of Rome, NY died in Tonawanda, NY after a brief illness. He was born in Altmar, NY on a small family farm July 8, 1926. He was in the USAF and served in Korea during the Korean War.

Richard attended Syracuse University on the GI bill and graduated in 1959. He had an illustrious 31-year career as an Electronics Engineer designing radar for the USAF. He had a second career working for GE in Utica for 10 years.

Richard was the Education director of IEEE for many years. He was a member and did lay ministry at the Delta United Methodist church for 60 years.

His treasured past times included playing in Bridge tournaments, hiking with his beloved friends and family and traveling.

Richard is survived by his three daughters Dr Deborah Glazer (Tim Gilbert) of Lebanon, NH, Pamela Adams of Amherst, NY, Marianne Yourdon (Ward ) of Binghamton, NY , 6 grandchildren: Shannon Glazer(Ben Chappell) of Denver, CO, Adrienne Salvagni (Scott) of Albany, NY, Christopher Glazer (Cora) of Austin, Tx, Jessica Yourdon (David Rubio) and Ward Yourdon (Kristin) of San Antonio, TX and Cassandra Smith (Joel) of Grand Island, NY., and 8 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Betty Tifft Ackley, son in law, Robert Adams and by just 1 month, his cousin and best friend, Harvey Ackley. He is also survived by his cousins/ like sisters Arlea Ackley Farley of Syracuse, NY, and Shirley Greenwood of Parish, NY and his neighbor/ like a son, Dave Fiorini of Rome, NY. /[ It should be Shirley Sanderson, not Greenwood in the obit. Shirley's first husband died in 1957--his name was Greenwood. She then married Stanley Sanderson 208725288. These are my mother's Ackley first cousins.]
