A Tragic Death ~ David LeRoy Blakeney

Roy Blakeney Commits Suicide Following Nervous Attack

Goes Into Cellar To Kill Self

Tallmans, February 19 – A few moments after he had arisen from the breakfast table this morning, David LeRoy Blakeney went down into the cellar of his home here, retrieving a double-barrel shotgun from a hiding place there, placed the nuzzle of the gun into his mouth and pulled the trigger. He was killed instantly.

He is the son of the late David Blakeney, and the stepson of Frank Comesky.

At home at the time of the tragedy were Mrs. Blakeney and the couple's three year old daughter. Mrs. Blakeney is prostrated with the shock of the suicide.

Mr. Blakeney was born in Tappan thirty-three years ago, the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Blakeney. After his father's death, Mrs. Blakeney was married to Frank Comesky. She died about nine years ago.

During the war, Roy served with the U. S. Army ammunition trains in France, and, following the armistice with the Army of Occupation in Germany. It is believed by his intimate friends that his suicide is the direct result of his experiences in France.

Recently, suffering from nervous depression, he went to a private institution in Westchester County, from which he returned two weeks ago, apparently in better spirits.

He was married to Miss Anne Feeney on New Year's Eve, 1921 and purchased the farm at Tallmans on which he shot himself today.

Coroner Giles was called to the scene and pronounced Mr. Blakeney dead by his own act.

Mr. Comesky, who was in Court at New City when news of the tragedy was brought to him, hurried immediately to Tallmans, while court was adjourned.

Please note: With current forensics, it has been deemed near impossible to shoot oneself with a shot gun because of it's length. It is quite sad this occurred. Today further investigation would be made.
