Jan Patterson of Cozad, passed away July 31, 2016, in Cozad surrounded by family and friends at the age of 77 after a long battle with cancer. Jan was born October 5, 1938, in Sutherland, Nebraska to Milo and Ethel (Cochran) Patterson. Jan attended Culver City High School in California and graduated with the class of 1957.

Jan was a musician for all her life until the last year when arthritis made it impossible to play her beloved guitar, Alice. She played in a band in California, participated in numerous musical events around Cozad, played in almost every church in the area, and taught guitar to dozens of students. One of her greatest joys was being Director of the Robert Henri Museum in Cozad. She brought the museum to the world though social media and because of this, counted numerous people in Ireland as close friends. Her love for the museum was only bested by her love for her family, especially her granddaughter, Ava. Ava was the pride and joy she had waited so many years to welcome. Jan was also a fierce protector of animals and animals were always welcomed into the museum for tours with their owners. Most of all, though, Jan will be remembered as someone who had the rare gift for making everyone feel special and important.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Barbara Landercasper. She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Whitney (Michael) Patterson-Kock of Omaha; granddaughter, Ava Kock; brothers, Rodney Patterson of Pittsfield, MA and Ronald 'Gib' (Jane) Patterson of Nevada City, CA; her beloved cat, Gracie and many cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends. Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Peace, love and vintage tie dye attire is welcomed. Inurnment will follow at the Cozad Cemetery. Berryman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
