Gladys Faye Brewer Garner of Pine Bluff, Arkansas was born April 8, 1935 at Sheridan, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Wilburn Leroy and Laver Smith Brewer. She was a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church, and was a homemaker. Gladys enjoyed gardening, and according to her family, was the best cook they’ve ever known, especially her chicken and dumplings. Her greatest joy in life was making memories with her family, whom she loved with all her heart. Mrs. Garner died Monday, August 1, 2016 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, at the age of 81. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Jennings “Dub” Garner; sisters, Jewel Hix and Louise Morris.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Merritt Burroughs of Pine Bluff; son, James I. Merritt, Jr. of Pine Bluff; sister, Marva Winans of Sheridan; 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 great great granddaughters. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan with Bro. Robert Ewing officiating. She will be buried next to her husband in Lost Creek Cemetery at Sheridan, in a private service, to be held at a later date. Visitation is also Thursday, from 2:00 P.M. until service time.
