George M. Cunningham, 97, of Elizabethtown, PA passed away on August 1, 2016. Born October 2, 1918 in Elizabethtown, he was the son of Charles H. (Sr.) and Alice Heilman Cunningham. George was married to his second wife, Pauline B. (Hawke) Cunningham, who passed away in 2011, after sharing 63 years together.
George graduated in 1936 from Elizabethtown Area High School and retired from the Defense Logistics Agency in Washington, D.C. following more than 40 years of federal government service. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective of Elks since 1939 and a life member of the Elizabethtown Friendship Fire & Hose Co. George was a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown. George was an avid Phillies, Eagles and college football fan. His passions included tending to his home and spending time with his family.
He is survived by a daughter, Donna Cunningham of Elizabethtown; 2 sons, Glenn "Dodge" Cunningham and wife Carol of Elizabethtown and Carl Cunningham of St. Augustine, FL; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Buch and husband John of Elizabethtown. He was predeceased by his first wife Clara (Dunn) Cunningham; a son, George H. Cunningham; a grandson, George E. Cunningham; and 2 brothers, J. Robert Cunningham and Charles H. Cunningham, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 11 AM at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N. Market St., Elizabethtown 17022 with Rev. Dr. Frederick A. Young and Rev. Dr. Galen E. Russell, III officiating. Family and friends are invited for viewing from 10 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow services in Mt. Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown.
