Dr. Lana Aldridge Metoyer
February 6, 1969- July 28, 2016
"Let not your heart be troubled: Ye believe in God, believe also in me." John 14:1-2
A most beautiful and blessed soul was called into heaven on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA. Dr. Lana Aldridge Metoyer was born February 6, 1969 in Opelousas, LA to the union of Nahum and Eloise Aldridge. At an early age she accepted Christ as her savior. She was a devoted lifelong member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, a church one pastored by her paternal grandfather, Rev. Frank Aldridge.
Dr. Lana Metoyer was educated in the public schools of St. Landry Parish and earned her high school diploma from Opelousas High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. She earned her Medical Doctorate Degree from Louisiana State University in New Orleans, LA.
On April 8, 1995, she was united in marriage to Dr. Derek J. Metoyer. This occurred during her senior year of Medical School. She, along with her husband, went to complete a three year residency in Family Medicine, before returning to Opelousas to found Metoyer Family Medical Center in 1998. To the union of Dr. Lana Aldridge Metoyer and Dr. Derek J. Metoyer, three children were born, a daughter, Arianne, and two sons, Derek, II and Adam.
Dr. Lana Aldridge Metoyer could not have been anything but a blessed child. She was born to loving parents, and surrounded with kindness by her extended family. She was nurtured by a Christ-centered, St. Mark United Methodist Church family. She was also polished and shined by the wonderful families of Julia Street.
Dr. Lana Aldridge Metoyer could not have been anything but a physician. She soothed countless souls with her knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. She was a Board-Certified Family Physician and a member of the Louisiana and American Academies of Family Medicine. She had a firm belief in education and her love of learning was surpassed only by her love of God and family.
Some of you may remember her as a little girl selling snowballs on Julia Street. Some of you may remember her as a young dedicated physician-in-training. All remember her as a kind, compassionate individual whose greatest gift was her love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Nahum & Mrs. Eloise Lilly Aldridge. We will celebrate Dr. Lana Metoyer's life and legacy at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Opelousas, LA at 11:00 AM, with viewing beginning at 7:00 AM on Saturday, August 6, 2016.
She will be laid to rest at Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA. Rev. Junius Egby will officiate the service.
