He married, during 1841, to Elizabeth Annie McCutchen of Georgia b: 1820, d: 14 Dec 1882. Jonathan and Elizabeth had children: Amanda Elizabeth, Joseph W., Sarah, and, Martha A. Godwin. The "Application for Headstone" that the War Department processed and returned to his son Joseph W. Godwin showing shipment of the marker to grave site at Moody Cemetery.
