Robert L. “Bob” Holbrook, age 89, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Wilton, CT and Southbury, CT died peacefully in his sleep early Sunday, July 31, 2016 at NHC Healthcare. Mr. Holbrook was born on February 5, 1927 in Auburn, NY, the son of the late Wesley Albert Holbrook and Jennie Dorothy Holness Holbrook.

He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy, stationed aboard the USS Kearsarge as a Fireman 1st Class. Following his military service he pursued his formal education, attending Syracuse University and earning his B.S. from Buffalo University. He continued at the University of Cincinnati where he earned a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. He then began his career with Olin Corporation, retiring after 37 years and procuring many patents during his tenure of service.

Following retirement he started his own consulting firm, Chemsult, continuing to live the American dream. Outside of work he enjoyed coaching the little league and Lucy league teams his children played for in Wilton, CT. He also served as the President of the Men’s Golf Association at Heritage Country Club in Southbury. He can proudly say he had his hole in one at Darien CC. He was active in a leadership role with the SCORE Association in Waterbury, CT and continued to participate in Hilton Head, SC.
His list of accomplishments include bronze life master status in (ACBL) duplicate bridge achieved in the Hilton Head and Okatie Creek Clubs.

Mr. Holbrook was preceded in death by his spouse of 43 years, Jean Elizabeth Holbrook who was a dedicated and creative mother of the four Holbrook children. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Connie Lynn Holbrook; sons, David Scott Holbrook (Jeanie), Brian Robert Holbrook, and Russell W. Holbrook; daughter, Leslie J. Holbrook; step-sons, Matthew A. Archambault (Christin) and Mark W. Archambault (Laurie); grandchildren, Robert, Dennis, Daniel, Jennie, Hayley, Hannah, Cooper, Carley, and Kelly; step-grandchildren, Kely, Elise, Shae, and Tate; and great-grandchildren, Lydia and Blake.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6,2016 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury, CT.

Calling hour: Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass in the chapel of Sacred Heart Church.

Burial will take place in Southford Cemetery,Oxford, CT under the direction of Carpino Funeral Home, Southbury.
Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton is also assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton or Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southbury.
