Lucy L. Melbie-Edwards, age 44, of Spicer, died Friday morning, Aug. 2, at the Paynesville Area Hospital following an extended illness. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, at the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in New London. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home in Spicer. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Lucy Melbie-Edwards Memorial Fund at the Federated Credit Union in Paynesville.
Lucy L. Melbie-Edwards was born on August 2, 1969, in Elmira, New York, the daughter of Ralph A. and Ruth E. (Clearwater) Melbie. She grew up in Elmira and graduated from Bradford Central High School in 1987. Lucy attended cosmetology school and worked as a beautician at the J.C. Penny Salon in Horseheads, New York. In 1998, Lucy moved to Spicer, Minnesota and worked as a bartender at the Spicer American Legion and was then employed for 10 years at the Spicer Castle. Lucy enjoyed camping, fishing and attending social events with her friends and family. For the past two years, she has fought a courageous battle with esophagal cancer.
She is survived by her three children, Michael (and Katie) Melbie of Willmar, Matthew Melbie of Willmar and Carrie Melbie of Bath, NY.; her mother, Ruth Melbie of Spicer; three brothers, Wesley Melbie of Elmira, NY, Ralph Melbie Jr. of CA., and David Melbie of Horseheads, NY., and four sisters, Elizabeth (and David) Hodge of Wayne, NY., Gayle Dean of Spicer, Cindy Melbie of TX., and Tami (and Nate) Melbie-Strom of Jeffers, MN., besides other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph A. Melbie Sr.
